GRACE-FACED is a book unlike any other I have read. Carlson greets me on her pages as a trusted friend: sympathetic, understanding, and never preachy or "holier than thou".
Her humorous stories, anecdotes, and personal experiences showcase her openness and non-judgmental style as she walks me through the ways I can seek the face of God. The chapters helpfully hone in on areas I often find myself facing unexpectedly, while the devotional parts of the book lead me to a greater understanding of God’s love during trying times.
Written as if speaking to a close friend, I imagine this author saying to me, “I’ve gone through something similar in my life; let me tell you how I found God’s grace and mercy in my situation, and perhaps it will help you, too.”
A favorite part of GRACE-FACED is the author’s choice to name chapters in a way that I can quickly zero in on the season of life I’m experiencing, be it fear, change, grief, worry, or disappointment, as well as times of peace, joy, and victory. The bonus in the introduction to each section is a list of additional Bible verses to study for delving further into each topic.
